Important Notice

It has been discovered that the results of searches on the Baptism and Marriage sections of the website before 1753 show a systematic error in the date, ranging from one day early in 1752 to 37 days early in 1603. This appears to be due to a discrepancy in the way that Windows NT servers calculate dates from Windows Acccess databases. Until this can be recitified, researchers will need to factor in this incremental error.

The nature of the problem is as follows. A search for a particular year correctly yields all dates on the database in that historical year (New Style, reckoned with year beginning 1 January). Thus a search on '1630', for instance will reveal all baptisms or marriages in that year. However their precise day/month dates will appear as if 30 days before the correct date. hence some dates display as if dated December 1629. This table gives the number of days of correction required. To correct, simply count the requisite number of days forward in time.

The table was made by interpolation after checking the website display against the printed sources used for input for several sequences of years and some odd years, using all entries for these years in the Marriage table. Results agree with individual entries in the Baptisms table already checked. The error is linked to the leap years, and the irregularity in the sequence at 1700 is due to the fact that 1700 would not be a leap year by modern rules was treated as a leap year at the time (see Cheney, Handbook of Dates).

Note that only the Baptism and Marriage search displays are subject to error. The Burial dates are not affected.
