Parish Records
For those wishing to trace their family history back beyond 1837, Parish Records are a vital source of information. While not every inhabitant of Moreton in the seventeenth century left a tombstone, for example, each one buried, married or baptised in Moreton appears noted in the register. In many ways the registers preserve more history of the community than any number of pictures of the Square or important houses.
Three types of official record were noted in the registers and may be searched, as laid out in the following table.
Baptism Search |
The name, parentage and date of baptism of everyone so far discovered to have been baptised in Moreton from 1603 to 1920, including some non-conformist records, and North Bovey from 1710 to 1920. |
Marriage Search |
This records the names and dates of everyone so far discovered to have been married in Moreton from 1603 to 1920 and North Bovey from 1710 to 1920. Some non-conformist records are included. |
