Ancient hamlet, dating from 14th century at the latest. It is mentioned three times in connection with men recorded in the 1332 Subsidy Roll.
WESTERN UPPACOTT. Included in the Courtenay Survey (circa 1790) where George May is said to occupy the house and 137 acres.
