Moreton has always made the most of occasions for celebration, in the old days usually by bell-ringing, decorating the streets, and if possible feasting.  For contemporary accounts of some early celebrations, click here.

Coronation of George V, Feast on Greenhill

More recently we have many pictures of the inhabitants gathered to celebrate coronations, VE day, and the visits of royalty – apart from their original purpose they give us an opportunity to see the clothes people wore and the appearance of the shops and houses (when the decorations don’t obscure them). We have pictures at the time of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee (1897), the coronation of George V (1911) and George VI (1937), and Royal Visits by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1909 and George VI in 1937.
